Annual inspections of your equipment are vital to both the safety of your employees and your compliance with government regulations mandating inspections on certain tools and machinery. The professionals at WEST Equipment Co. Inc. provide on-site and off-site inspections of the following equipment:
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has mandated certain criteria for inspection frequency as well as rejection that have been universally accepted in the industry. Our experienced professionals follow these criteria and are trained to spot hazardous or problematic equipment or machinery such as eye bolts, hoists or shackles.
Per the mandate by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a periodic inspection of rigging hardware should be performed by a designated person, at least annually. After the rigging hardware is examined, a determination should be made as to whether they constitute a hazard.
During the inspection process for rigging hardware, wedge sockets are inspected for indications of damaged wire rope or rope slippage and improper assembly. Hooks are inspected for any visibly apparent bend or twist from the plane of the unbent hook or any distortion causing an increase in the throat opening of five percent, not to exceed ¼”.
The general rejection criteria for rigging hardware per the ASME include the following:
At WEST Equipment Co. Inc., we have the experience and the trained professionals to inspect the four most common types of slings: wire rope slings, chain slings, web slings and round braided slings. We follow American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ mandates to determine safety or rejection of use. A complete inspection for damage should be performed on all slings every time they are used per the ASME.
Some general rejection criterion includes: missing or illegible sling identification, evidence of heat damage, slings that are knotted, fittings that are pitted, corroded, cracked, bent, twisted, gouged or broken. Any other conditions including visible damage, that cause doubt as to the continued use of the sling could be a cause for rejection.
Contact the experienced professionals at WEST Equipment Co. Inc. for all of your eye bolt and wire roping inspection needs. We would be happy to come out to your company or work-site to offer a consultation.
